The effort has gone into making her a functional and comfortable sturdy passage maker. The Slocum was designed by Stan Huntingford of Vancouver, BC and is a double ender design evolved from his Passport design. The Slocum was built at the Hai-O Yacht Building Yards in Taiwan by Cruising Yachts International under the supervision of Jan Stadman who designed most of the interior. The boat is built with enormous attention to detail. It has many thoughtful and carefully designed features. Propulsion is a new 88hp Yanmar 4JH- DTE s/n 36971 turbo diesel with KBW 2 parallel drive transmission (2.17 gear reduction) s/n 5526. 1 1/2" Aquamet 22 shaft tapered to ABYC standards with 18" diameter 3 blade folding Max Prop, PSS packless seal and R&D flexible coupling. Cutlass rubber shaft bearing in bronze "P" bracket. Wet exhaust system with 3" diameter neoprene hose and Vernalift muffler. Morse cable controls to a Yacht Specialties' pedestal and Morse controls at lower steering station. Dual instrument panels in cockpit coaming and lower steering station. Construction Hull hand laid-up fiberglass with 20mm R62-80 Airex sandwich core. Full length box section stringers along hull. Marine ply bulkheads with Airex shock absorbing edge (rudder rebuilt 1/1/03). Lead keel- 9000lbs flooded with resin and 100% glassed over. Deck hand laid-up fiberglass with 3/4" Baltek balsa wood sandwich core. Teak decks seasoned lumber, quarter sawn with black bedding compound below and in seams, secured to deck by 1" sheet metal screws, countersunk and plugged. Inlaid teak cabin top. Contoured cockpit seats with teak. Five cockpit seat hatches. Two cockpit coaming latches. LPG double bottle storage locker and ice box in aft cockpit seats. Lazarette partitioned for sail storage.
